Large tooling, fixtures and inspection gauges are everyday factory-floor parts, often queuing for machining capacity. Stratasys has aimed its new F870 squarely at that workflow.
The system offers a 1,000 x 610 x 610 mm build volume in a fully heated chamber, which Stratasys describes as the longest build capacity in a heated chamber on the market. Launch materials are Nylon 12CF, ASA, ABS and a new ABS Draft grade in gray. The carbon-fiber-filled nylon is positioned for the strength, stiffness and durability that production tooling and fixtures demand. Stratasys also points to a lower TCO as a reason to widen additive use across a plant.
Ahead of commercial availability, early systems are in use at Toyota Production Engineering in Georgetown, Kentucky, and Rivian Automotive in Plymouth, Michigan. Both are assessing the platform for factory-floor tooling, manufacturing aids and prototyping. "The F870's combination of build size, material performance and industrial features aligns with the kinds of manufacturing needs we're looking to address," explained Dallas Martin, Additive Manufacturing Engineer at Toyota North America.
The F870 made its public debut at IMTS in Chicago in September.
