Grenzebach Additive Solutions GmbH, which was spun off at the beginning of 2026, describes this as a major milestone in its strategic partnership with EOS. At the same time, the deal also underscores the growing importance of automation in industrial Additive Manufacturing.
EOS initially ordered 40 systems before and during Formnext 2025. Following the successful launch of the new metal 3D printing system, EOS M4 ONYX, the order volume grew by 115 units, with further demand expected throughout the year.
EOS showcased the EOS M4 ONYX, a new generation of AM systems for industrial metal manufacturing, at Formnext 2025. According to EOS, the M4 ONYX delivers significantly higher productivity, advanced waste handling, and extended automation functions. A central element is the Grenzebach Dual Setup Station – EOS Edition. The system also enables the parallel preparation of build jobs during printing and a fast, automated exchange of build cylinders, allowing for job changeovers in under 30 minutes and significantly reducing machine downtime. The result is cost-efficient serial production 24/7.
The Grenzebach Dual Setup Station was further developed specifically to complement the EOS M4 ONYX. Adaptations include the build cylinder design, handling processes, ergonomics, and automation logic. The external appearance was also modified to match the dark design concept of the EOS M4 ONYX.
The major order builds on a strategic partnership that has continued to evolve since 2016. A key milestone was the NextGenAM project launched in 2017, where fully automated serial processes for metal components were implemented for the first time. In the following years, the collaboration was further expanded to include the adaptation of automation concepts to polymer processes and joint development work within the Polyline research project.
At the same time, the order represents a significant success for the newly established Grenzebach Additive Solutions GmbH. The Additive Manufacturing business unit has been managed as an independent company within the Grenzebach Group since 1 January 2026 with Dimitrios Livadas taking over management of the new entity on 1 April.
The spin-off aims to bundle technological expertise and further increase responsiveness in the rapidly growing Additive Manufacturing market. “Additive Manufacturing recorded growth of almost 20 percent. With the new organizational structure, we are creating the foundation to expand this momentum further and support our customers even more effectively,” said Steven Althaus, CEO of Grenzebach Group.
