UltiMaker has launched the Factor 4 Plus, an industrial desktop platform built for continuous factory production and pitched squarely at manufacturing and defense. The headline gain is throughput, which the company puts at up to twice the speed of the standard Factor 4, drawing on the high-speed motion of its S-series. It targets production-grade jobs such as custom jigs and fixtures and durable spare parts, and it runs high-performance materials including PPS-CF, a high-heat and chemical-resistant composite.
What lifts it above a straight speed bump is UltiMaker TRACE, short for Technical Reporting And Certification Engine, which automatically validates every print and logs the data behind it so output can meet quality-assurance standards with minimal operator oversight.
UltiMaker is leaning hard into defense, citing a rugged, field-deployable design, open materials access and data security aligned to NATO requirements, and it expects defense to account for around 30 percent of revenue by the end of 2026. For distributed production, where the same part must come out identically across multiple sites, the pairing of higher speed and built-in validation is the point. The Factor 4 Plus is built in the Netherlands and stays notably cheaper than the heavier industrial systems it is chasing.
