Siemens Mobility recognized the increasing importance of additive manufacturing for the supply of spare parts back in 2012 and integrated this new technology into its portfolio. In the first few years, the focus was on the provision of spares. As a result, a large number of parts for light rail vehicles, commuter and high-speed trains, locomotives, as well as infrastructure equipment were manufactured and approved specifically for rail applications. This technology has revolutionized the procurement of spare parts in the rail industry. Nowadays, additive manufacturing has matured, and use cases by Siemens Mobility have been expanded towards highly complex components and large assemblies, even in serial applications.
