Optmizing Rocket Propulsion Manufacturing by Integrating Pontcon’s 3DMD High-Speed DED-LB Process

This session will explore the implementation of High-Speed Directed Energy Deposition with Laser Beam (DED-LB) using Ponticon’s 3D Dynamic Material Deposition (3DMD) technique for producing rocket combustion and thrust chambers. In collaboration with the Ariane Group, this project showcases significant advancements in hybrid manufacturing capabilities. The 3DMD process enables multimaterial coatings, such as Inconel on copper alloy, without requiring intermediary materials like Monel, streamlining production by reducing steps and minimizing waste. The approach also eliminates the need for heat treatments, shortening lead times and enhancing precision. This presentation will illustrate how the 3DMD process achieves low distortion rates, ensuring component integrity and reliability. The versatility of 3DMD extends beyond new manufacturing to repair applications, offering a competitive alternative to conventional methods. Attendees will learn how this technology can enhance the aerospace industry’s capabilities, particularly in rocket propulsion manufacturing.
