Strongest Bond: Metal AM and gluing for next generation E-Bike Manufacturing

This presentation explores a breakthrough in the bicycle industry made possible through metal additive manufacturing (AM). Highlighting the collaborative efforts between Eplus3D and Möve, we showcase the world’s first titanium e-bike frame with an integrated battery, utilizing 3D-printed titanium lugs. This project addresses key industry challenges: reducing manual labor, managing high tooling costs, and meeting the rigorous performance standards associated with carbon fiber frames. Using Metal Powder Bed Fusion (MPBF™) technology and Ti6Al4V material, Eplus3D enabled Möve to cut production times by over six months, optimize material use, and lower costs.

Our discussion focuses on the transformative potential of metal AM for high-strength, lightweight bicycle frames, emphasizing enhanced design flexibility, customization, and sustainability. The session will delve into Eplus3D’s process innovations, including optimized cost structures and efficient post-production processes, which have paved the way for an economically viable, high-quality series production.
