The purpose of this design remains to be purely educational. It is meant to give a brief introduction on the full potential of the AME technology by embedding the COTS components of the J.A.M.E.S Coin NFC on AME – PrintC design, published by the J.A.M.E.S Team.

The functionality, namely providing an electronic business card, remains the same. However, the stability of the solder- or glue-connections is highly increased due to the complete embedding and covering.

Since the J.A.M.E.S Coin NFC in AME design already includes many of the advantages of the AME technology, like: printing customized capacitors, embedding components, realizing 3-dimensional volumes etc.; it is very well suited to be used as a benchmark example to compare different AME processes and technologies.

The goal of this AME story is to develop a guideline towards a highly integrated electrified volume of arbitrary shape. It is intended to leave the flat PCB formfactor behind and fit the desired electronic functionality in any suitable volume.

The RF synthesizer presented in this story will be the exemplary vehicle on which different approaches and ideas will be tested, demonstrated and verified. It is designed to transmit a fixed and stabilized signal on a predefined frequency, which can be distributed or amplified.

The RF synthesizer is very well suited as an example for 3D Heteregeneous Integration because it includes not only DC and digital signals, but also RF signals need to be handled. Therefore, there is a lot of potential for improvements with the AME technology.

Designing a fully functioning drone is a quite challenging task. Due to their operation conditions, the usual requirements for the electronics include being lightweight, low power consumption and using up as little space as possible. Since the advertised benefits of the AME technology are matching exactly those requirements, this story aims to show how the AME technology enables new drone design concepts.

The goal is to design a complete drone platform according to the attached specifications, which also serves the educational purpose of demonstrating the huge potential that AME can offer in this area. The focus will be to realize the drone as highly integrated as possible and to avoid as many additional post-print assembly processes as possible.
