ÖBB faced challenges sourcing obsolete components, a familiar issue in the transportation sector. The company approached Chromatic about prototypes for several custom parts. Just a few weeks later, OBB purchased 130 bellows, cable glands, valve dusters, and flat seals printed with Chromatic’s RX-AM platform for reactive extrusion additive manufacturing.
The components were designed to enhance the performance and longevity of OBB’s fleet by preventing dust and moisture from infiltrating specific areas of its railcars. They were 3D printed with thermoset polyurethane for durability and flexibility.
