Additively manufactured lightweight structures for rail vehicles

This presentation will address the growing importance of lightweight construction strategies in rail vehicle design due to economic and ecological demands. The focus will be on a robot-assisted combined process chain incorporating various additive manufacturing techniques for the production of topology-optimized structures. AI-monitored robotics play a key role in stiffening large train segments, enhancing performance and efficiency. The session will detail the additive processes involved, including fused granular fabrication, arc spraying, and cold spray, along with technological development results. Attendees will gain an understanding of how these advanced processes contribute to sustainable, high-performance rail vehicle construction.
