Novel invention of printable biosensors for point-of-care diagnostic devices
19.11.2024
This research focuses on leveraging sustainable additive manufacturing and electrochemical sensing principles to develop highly sensitive, label-free electrodes for detecting cancer gene sequences. By electrochemically growing noble metal nanoparticles on carbon nanotube arrays, the study aims to create miniaturized, integrated 3D-printed electroanalytical systems capable of analyzing small samples for cancer gene mutations using portable, wireless equipment for on-site testing. The project fills knowledge gaps in low-cost 3D printing of DNA biosensors, expanding the range of printable, highly conductive, and biocompatible materials. The first application is seen in Gravity Pull Systems’ Wearable Diagnostics Center and Home Diagnostics Kit. This work supports early cancer diagnostics, aligning with the Canadian Strategy for Cancer Control by promoting innovative screening and prevention tools.
